Big Night: 7 Great Action Movie Christmas Movie References

SPOILER WARNING: The following article contains massive spoilers for violent night. If you haven’t seen Christmas action movie 2022 yet, please be careful.
violent nightthe hard-hitting Christmas action film with the main actors stranger things All Star David Harbor as the not-so-cheerful St. Nick finally hit theaters in early December 2022 and did quite well at the box office, all considered. The film that received 4 out of 5 stars The official review of CinemaBlendbrought not only Christmas greetings, but also some hellish beatings, gunfights and some of the most unique fight scenes of the year.
But beyond that, director Tommy Wirkola’s dark Christmas comedy also contained an incredible amount of Christmas movie references to classics like Home alone, Die Hard, Christmas holidays from National Lampoon, and much more. And although this is not every single recall and Easter egg found in it violent night (which will require repeated consideration), this is a good starting point.
The Die Hard Plot
before violent night even opened on the big screen, it was hard to avoid Compare to Die Hardconsidering that both are Action movies set on Christmas Eve. The similarities don’t stop there, as after watching the film, it’s easy to pick up multiple references to the long-discussed 1988 Bruce Willis film throughout its run.
Unlike the other Christmas movie Easter eggs on this list, there’s more than one example of this Die Hard is referenced. This includes the premise that terrorists raid a Christmas party to steal a massive fortune, with a guy standing in the way of the plan (John McClane in Die HardSanta Claus in violent night) and intense violence. The only difference is that there aren’t any Hans Gruber falls from Nakatomi Plaza.
The Home Alone Booby Trap sequence
The 1990 Chris Columbus Christmas Classic, Home alone, will perish forever as one of the The best Christmas movies any times. This feeling can be attributed to several reasons and the sophisticated and frighteningly violent booby traps constructed by Kevin McCallister of Macaulay Culkin certainly doesn’t detract from that claim. These booby traps are also one of the best references for Christmas movies violent night.
After running away and hiding from mercenaries holding her family hostage, young Trudy Lightstone (Leah Brady) hides in the attic, surrounding herself with a series of traps that would shock even Kevin McCallister. Much like Marv and Harry, Gingerbread (Andre Eriksen) and Candy Cane (Mitra Suir) are severely abused by the young trap maker. But unlike hers Home alone Counterparts, these idiots don’t get out alive and suffer extremely violent and cunning deaths.
Starring Beverly D’Angelo from Christmas Vacation
That violent night to water is great from top to bottom, but one of the standouts is Beverly D’Angelo’s Gertude Lightstone, the badass and powerful matriarch of the family who’s being held hostage. D’Angelo is no stranger to vacation films with an edgier tone, in which she famously portrayed Ellen Griswold Christmas holidays from National Lampoon (which you can watch in streaming).
In contrast to the cool, calm and overall warm character she played in the Christmas classic from 1989However, D’Angelo’s character is anything but in violent night. When speaking to EW Prior to the film’s release, D’Angelo spoke of appearing in both films, stating that she “enjoyed coming for the holidays and embodying a completely different perspective”.
The Christmas code names of the mercenaries
This next reference (or references) on the list has less to do with Christmas movies and more to do with the holiday season in general. The code names of the mercenary team raiding the Lightstone estate are all based on vacation pictures, with the leader, John Leguizamos “Mr. Scrooge” is the best and most on the nose.
The other members of the team consist of the aforementioned Gingerbread and Candy Cane, who are joined by Sugarplum (Stephanie Sy), Frosty (Can Aydin), Tinsel (Phong Giang) and Krampus (Brandon Fletcher), the sick and sinister henchman who has Joy to torture and hurt the family.
The Die Hard 2 Double-Cross
Despite being shredded and mocked over the years, die hard 2 probably the best sequel by John McClane, and there are strong arguments for the 1990 film. But that’s for another article. Instead, I have to point out that one of the best revelations in violent night pays homage die hardernotably John Amos’ double crossing Major Grant.
During the early walking of violent night, several characters mention the Lightstone Extraction Team, a military-like group with a history of handling similar situations. However, when the team led by Commander Thorpe (Mike Dopud) arrives, it turns out that they are actually working with Scrooge, much like Major Grant works with him die hard 2 Villain Colonel William Stuart (William Sadler). They even wear similar outfits (white snowsuits) and John Leguizamo appears in both films.
The power of Christmas magic helping Santa Claus like in the elf
There is a lot of Christmas magic violent nightwith Santa putting his finger on his nose to walk up and down the chimney, but the best example, and one that feels like it was taken right from him Jon Favreau’s 2003 Christmas comedy Elevencomes at the very end of the movie.
Much like the late Ed Asner’s Santa Claus, who gets a Christmassy spell from everyone in New York singing “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” to escape the Central Park Rangers, David Harbor’s Viking warrior becomes after all the surviving adults of brought back to the dead to proclaim that they believe in Santa Claus, thereby saving the holiday.
Mr. Scrooge’s origin story is similar to that of Neil in Santa Claus
In the 1994 Christmas film Santa Claus, Charlie Calvin’s (Eric Lloyd) stepfather Neil Miller (Judge Reinhold) reveals that he stopped believing in Santa Claus when he was three years old after St. Nick failed to bring him an Oscar Meyer whistle. Leguizamo’s character, whose name turns out to be Jimmy Martinez, has a similar origin story as his life was changed forever when his father got fired from work and they never had a great Christmas again.
Instead of becoming a child psychologist, however, Mr Scrooge became a career criminal and eventually led the raid on the Lightstone estate. Neil would get redemption Santa Claus and stay here for its sequels, but don’t expect to see Jimmy if violent night 2 actually happens.
Again, these are just some of the references to Christmas movies that can be found everywhere violent night, and there are many to add to this article in the future.
