Sentry Insurance plans to create about 300 jobs in the El Paso area over the next six years, officials said.
The company, a major national insurance provider, plans to open a call center-like facility in West El Paso by March, Sentry and El Paso executives said Tuesday.
The company is calling the facility a field office, and El Paso will be Sentry’s 24thth one such office in the United States.
The field offices are designed to bring the company closer to its customers, and the El Paso office will allow Sentry to expand its customer base in El Paso and throughout the western United States, Sentry spokeswoman Carolyn Schamberger said in an email.
Most El Paso employees will be customer service and claims representatives, taking calls from customers and insurance applicants. At least two translators, managers, IT staff and other support staff will also work in the office, Schamberger said.
“El Paso’s large bilingual workforce is one of the reasons we were drawn to the area,” Elisha Williams, Sentry’s chief customer services operations officer, said in a statement. “This is a critical need for us in serving our customers.”
Williams announced Sentry’s plans during a Tuesday news conference in El Paso. El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser, El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego and Borderplex Alliance CEO Jon Barela commended the company for creating new jobs in the area.
Sentry is the latest of several companies opening new call center operations in El Paso this year.

Sentry plans to hire about 30 people by the end of this year, but company officials aren’t saying how many people will be hired next year. 300 employees are to be hired by 2028.
Customer service jobs start at $17.50 per hour and $18.50 per hour for those who speak both English and Spanish. Claims adjustment jobs start at $22 per hour. The jobs also have fringe benefits.
Sentry is moving into part of a building that years ago housed an AT&T call center. It is located at 1575 Resler Drive in the Northwest Corporate Center business park. It occupies 60,000 square feet of the 93,000 square foot building that has other tenants.
Sentry is the 650th Top-grossing company in the United States according to Fortune Magazine. In 2021, it generated sales of $3.5 billion. It employs about 4,900 people nationwide.
It sells property, casualty and life insurance, annuities and retirement plans for businesses and individuals. It also sells the Dairyland line of auto and motorcycle insurance.
Besides insurance, corporate officials also like golf.
The company will mark its fifth year as title sponsor of the Sentry Tournament of Champions in 2023. The January Pro Golf Tournament in Hawaii is the first stop on the PGA Tour every year.
The company also has a world-class 18-hole golf course, restaurant and sports complex called SentryWorld on its headquarters campus in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
