KeyBank supports student economic security at Housatonic Community College

BRIDGEPORT, CT / ACCESSWIRE / December 19, 2022 / The Housatonic Community College Foundation announced it has received a $10,000 grant from the KeyBank Foundation to address student economic security needs. For the fifth consecutive year, KeyBank will support the college’s Family Economic Security Program (FESP).

The FESP program helps approximately 50 low-income, single-parent students learn how to balance their educational and career goals, personal health and well-being, and provides a significant boost to their positive path to graduation.

Through bundled service offerings, students participating in the FESP program receive resources and tools to advance their education, career and economic security. Performance coaches provide academic, financial, and life counseling, while students participate in workshops and activities and receive careers advice.

“One of KeyBank’s philanthropic focuses is to provide students with the opportunity to prepare for a fulfilling career through access to quality education and support for their academic success,” said Bradley Hardy, KeyBank Middle Market Relationship Manager and member of the Housatonic Board of Directors Community College Foundation. “HCC’s Family Economic Security Program has a positive impact on student success and graduation rates, and we are proud to support it both financially and by teaching financial literacy to its students.”

FESP is a proven model of comprehensive intensive support that helps students overcome obstacles to continue their education. The year-long program equips them with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive at Housatonic Community College (HCC) and in the workplace. In addition, with a two-generation approach, the program normalizes higher education among all family members.

KeyBank is also the FESP partner for financial literacy through their financial wellness program, [email protected], which provides FESP students with the tools and resources they need to achieve long-term financial success. “I am very pleased to be part of such a useful program while achieving not only short-term but also long-term goals when it comes to science and my finances. I work full-time and have a hard time arranging face-to-face meetings, so I love the ease of the online workshops,” said HCC student and FESP participant Courtney Csech.

“Students at FESP juggle income and parenting as single parents and strive to advance their education. We are grateful to KeyBank for their generous support of these amazing women who are determined to improve the lives of their families,” said Kristy Jelenik, executive director of the Housatonic Community College Foundation.
