The court summons Shahnawaz’s attorney to cross-examine witnesses

A district and hearing court in Islamabad subpoenaed the main suspect on Wednesday The murder case of Sarah Inam Shahnawaz Amir’s attorney for cross-examining the witnesses at the next hearing – who did not attend today’s hearing.

Prosecutor Rana Hasan Abbas and the plaintiff’s lawyer, Rao Abdul Rahim, appeared in court. Meanwhile, Shahnawaz was also brought before the court today. The victim’s father – Inam-ur-Rahim – was also present.

During today’s hearing, the court took testimony from Police Officer Shakeela Kausar.

In her statement, Shakeela said she arrived at the crime scene at 10:40 p.m. where she was located Shahawaz was present.

“Shahnawaz has confessed to murdering his ex-wife Sarah Inam and also confessed that her body is in the bathtub,” she said.

The policewoman said that the victim’s husband took the police to the body himself. “He also told police about the dumbbell that was hidden under the sofa and covered in Sarah’s blood,” she added.

That’s when the National Forensic Science Agency (NFSA) team reached the site, she said.

Shakeela said police took the victim’s body in an ambulance to Polyclinic Hospital, where a autopsy was performed on her.

“I gave Sarah Inam’s clothes to the investigating officer,” she said.

The court also took the testimony of crime scene director Mohammad Rizwan.

The court adjourned the hearing to January 18.

The case

Police on Friday (September 23) registered a First Information Report (FIR) on the charge by Station House Officer (SHO) Nawazish Ali Khan under Section 302 (Penalty for Murder) of Pakistan’s Penal Code (PPC).

FIR mentioned that the suspect’s mother, Sameena Shah, called police on Friday (September 23) to inform them that her son Shahnawaz had killed his wife with a dumbbell.

According to the FIR, Sameena told police her son was in the house hiding his wife’s body. The police then searched the house.

In the complaint, police said Shahnawaz locked himself in his room and when staff entered, bloodstains were seen on his hands and clothing.

When police reached Shahnawaz, he confessed to repeatedly hitting his wife with a dumbbell during an argument and later hiding the Canadian citizen’s body in the bathtub, according to FIR.

The “murder weapon”, the FIR quoted Shahnawaz as saying, was hidden under his bed. Police reportedly found blood and hair on the dumbbell after examining it. They later sent it to forensics.
