The upcoming Star Wars film Rogue Squadron is getting a surprise update

Director Patty Jenkins has released a new update on her upcoming Star Wars movie, rogue squadronas rumors suggested the film might be cancelled.

While Lucasfilm continues to build on the Star Wars universe through several Disney+ series, the movie side of the franchise has taken a backseat, especially since then Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker bombed in theaters. Perhaps the most newsworthy project in the new list was Rogue Squadron, which has endured more than its fair share of development hitches over the past two years.

In a long statement to Twitter that shared the truth about Wonder Woman 3 Development Director Patty Jenkins also gave an update on where she is on the production at Lucasfilm rogue squadron.

Revealing that she originally left the Star Wars project when “It couldn’t happen soon enough” Jenkins shared that Lucasfilm actually asked her to consider returning to film after she finished her work on Warner Bros. wonder woman 3. She agreed to do just that, with rogue squadron to have “since in active development” remains hopeful that the film will still be made:

“I originally left Rogue Squadron after a long and productive development process when it became clear that it couldn’t happen soon enough and I didn’t want to delay WW3 any longer. When I did that, Lucasfilm asked me to come back to RS after WW3, which was an honor, so I agreed. You made a new deal with me. In fact, I’m still at it and this project has been in active development ever since. I don’t know if it will happen or not. We won’t do that until the development process is complete, but I look forward to its future potential.”

This update came as part of a larger message from Jenkins clarifying her status at Warner Bros wonder woman 3.

Patty Jenkins back on board for Rogue Squadron?

With so little information given about it rogue squadron, and especially given the Star Wars status with movies these days, it was certainly nerve-wracking for fans wondering if Jenkins would keep their movie in tact. But if you look at what Warner Bros. is doing to the DC Universe under DC Studios Co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, this news could be shaping up for the better for the Star Wars Universe.

wonder woman 3 is just one of a number of films that could be canceled or adjusted as part of the new plan for the DCU, though that now means Jenkins is seemingly fully back on board with the galaxy far, far away.

The big question now is when rogue squadron actually go into development and how it will complement the legacy of Star Wars on the big screen. And while rumors suggest fans won’t see Star Wars return to the big screen until 2024 at the earliest, hopefully Jenkins’ confirmed comeback will help get the series back on the right track.
